Supported Employment is currently offered in Elkhart, St. Joseph,
LaPorte, Porter, Starke, Marshall, Kosciusko, and Lake counties.
The primary clientele is referred from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.
This program is offered to individuals with moderate to severe disabilities
which prevents them from finding and maintaining employment.
Clients work one-on-one with the Employment Specialist to secure
employment that is meaningful and appropriate. The Employment Specialist
works with the client to teach him/her as much of the job search
process as possible to maximize the individual’s independence.
The Employment Specialist works with potential employers to understand
the clients’ strengths and limitations in the work setting
and to discuss any accommodations that might be necessary.
Once hired, a Job Coach is provided to the new employer and employee
to help facilitate a successful transition into the work setting.
On going support is provided.
Located at our corporate office and also in the Hammond and the
Merrillville offices is our Personal Enhancement Center. This area
includes a state-of-the-art training room where clients have access
to computers, the internet, and instructional materials. The training
room allows clients to build their skills during the day. ABE/GED
classes are offered during the week as well as STRIVE and Job Club.
Clients can use the typing tutorial to enhance their typing/keyboarding
skills. They also have access to training materials for Microsoft
programs. The training room also offers books to enhance their skills
to find and maintain employment.
However, it goes beyond work-related information. Individuals utilizing
the resource room can find materials that address personal issues
as well.
